9:17 am - Germany does everything better
|
Goddamn! Why does Germany have a totally way more badass movie poster than we do!? I want to trade in my free company-distributed poster for this one! Fortunately the link has a huge resolution version that I MIGHT JUST PRINT OUT MYSELF GODDAMMIT
Seriously, check it out it's like 100x more awesome: http://www.dvd-forum.at/4571/news_kino.htm

Last night Kevin reshaped the substrate, which meant that I had to replant most of the HC (baby's tears). NEVER AGAIN.

11:46 pm - Nano tank report, @ ~5 months
|
As promised, the impressive stuff! Upon finding out that I have a cubicle and personal desk at work, I decided right away that I wanted a little tank for it. However, our department didn't get "settled" into our permanent location until about a month ago, so I had this thing running and establishing itself at home for a few months, which is a good thing when it comes to my impatience :P Now it's sitting next to my computer as a terrible nice distraction.
Waaay more photos this time, and all hand-taken! Be prepared so that you don't get BLOWN AWAY.

11:51 pm - Puffer tank diary, day 1
|
So I've been (dragged by Kevin) into the aquarium hobby for oh, about a year now, but never mustered the effort to make any posts about it (mainly because it involves taking photos and blaaaah.) Today, though, I finally managed to set up a tank I've wanted to do for a while, so I want to take this opportunity to do a progress diary.
( Tank plans and specs: )
( Photos, day 1: )
On Monday I'll take the camera to work and get some good pics of the almost-2-gallon nano tank I've got running there :)

12:18 pm - There is nothing promoting about this
|

Leave it to marketing to pick the (almost) worst possible single image and 19 non-contiguous seconds of footage out of a beautiful 5-minute trailer to send to the press! Regardless, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kocGcNowtCY&fmt=22 Just... keep in mind that it's 1) blurry and dark from compression 2) not in THREE DEE 3) cut up like Wolverine, Freddie Kreuger, and Edward Scissorhands just got done with it 4) not showing any of the emotive acting moments whatsoever. ARGLEBLARGLE
K...keep posted for further redeeming footage...

Found volumes 1 and 3 of Animaniacs at Costco for even cheaper than Amazon ever had! So that just leaves volume 2... and 4, if it ever comes out. Watched the first 4 eps, still every bit as brilliant (and more) as they used to be. I can't possibly spend enough time talking about everything that made this show awesome. Seriously best cartoon ever... ever.
I would have posted sooner with character concept art, but that got sidelined by an art contest at work. Hopefully I can finish by the deadline of Wednesday... and then back to business.
Edit: Yes, I did memorize all of Yakko's World in seventh grade for social studies class. Still got it (except for some of Africa - that gets hard!)

12:37 pm - This is dumb nerdy stuff you don't need to read. Really.
|
Work's been pretty easy-going lately, which means that I've had time to revisit my own projects (personal laptop at work = best thing evar). Namely, I finally have the time I never could spare to compile all the notes I needed for the HP tarot. This nourished some thoughts into old obsessions, ( so, useless braindump time! )
I hope to be posting some thumbnail/concept sketches before too long. Would be nice to get some discussion on those, but that might be too much to hope for. XP

Biweekly sessions of figure drawing at work means that I get to take my new tablet PC out for a spin for realz! This model was really great but I sure wish he did some longer poses.
1 minute: Good poses make for good sketches.
5 minutes: 1 | 2
The 10-minute ones didn't turn out so good. Maybe next time.

2:08 am - Shoot them in the head
|
Hahaha I just watched Resident Evil: Degeneration. I don't know how it was possible for a CG movie to be so high-budget and low-budget at the same time.
Super-good: - Texturing - Lighting - Rendering - Hair (albeit fairly static hair) - Most of the action scenes (complete with A+B triggers) - The occasional camera work
Super-bad: - Animation - Plot (what plot?) - Rigging, both skeletal and facial - Animation of anyone who's not a zombie - Acting - People's ears (the only thing I'm an ~*expert*~ at modeling) - Leon S. Kennedy's superpower of standing rigidly and not moving a single muscle for upward of 20 seconds. Also see: animation
So in short, it was exactly like a Resident Evil game cutscene. Except where was Wesker?

The new Half-Blood Prince trailer is incredibly pretty. But even from a minute-long trailer I can tell the script is soullessly uninspired yet again. And that's not even going into how apparently butchered the story is. (Massive spoilers. However there are other reports with positive responses, so maybe it was just one of several test edits.) Will watch for pretty, not holding any hopes for story.
(Why does every bit of magic have to be so swishy? Apparation, the Death Mark, blah dee blah swish swoosh CLOUD FILTER RENDER.)

9:40 am - Prop 8.
|
You know what? Due to our enthusiasm, our donations, our phone calls, our canvassing, our willingness to spread accurate information and call out lies, and embrace a positive message, and just talk with family and friends and neighbors and coworkers, we elected a black man named Barack Hussein Obama into the White House.
This should have been done for Prop 8. The lying ads should have been debunked. The best arguments should have been put forth. Money should have been given, we should have fought.
It won't happen again.
Yes we can.
